Our third Icon Series release hails from the sun-bleached state of Los-Angeles, California. It’s 1954 and (below) Chet Baker sings alongside Russ Freeman on piano at Recorder Records in Hollywood, whilst cutting parts of his seminal album ‘Chet Sings’.
This image and countless others from the early Chet years circle around me on the daily. Chet in some sort high-waisted slacks and t-shirt sort-of-look never fails. On much closer inspection of one of these shots, there was one with its patchwork texture of raised ribbed and flat squares all seamlessly knitted as one that stayed in my mind forever. Other dreamy details like the closer neckline, cropped sleeve (note the optional turn back on the cuff) and the height of the waistband all worked in harmony for what I saw to be was the perfect knit T.
We took time with our knitters to capture the shape, cut and correct tension to re-create it - no detail left out ever. Even heading out to Cali to shoot the knit in a 50s wood-panelled studio to get the flavour that bit more.
Made from 100% organic cotton. Breathable and light by nature, but knitted with enough body to hold a strong silhouette and texture when worn. Tuck it in or wear it out and gathered over the ribbed waistband.
