Goodfellas Idlewild knit shirt

The second release of our popular Icon Series collection. This time we’ve fastidiously recreated this knit worn by Henry Hill in the Scorsese cult classic Goodfellas (1990). With countless shades of grey set into a black main body of Merino wool in the original colourway, this knit was and is extremely technical to produce. Only after we obtained an original vintage piece as worn in this scene, we were really able to understand the complexity of the knitted stripe and the exact shades of greys used in order to achieve its true beauty. The front panel also includes two horizontal hip-pockets and a full mother-of-pearl button front.

The Idlewild knit is named after the NYC airport (today’s JFK), the setting at which we first encounter the knit in the film. Just outside the airport, Henry Hill sits nonchalantly on the boot of the car outside a diner with his accomplice Tommy as they prep for a truck heist. It’s a scene that caught our eye immediately and one that focusses on Henry’s outfit - one we can’t fault. The camera pans up from his basketweave loafers over THE sharpest pressed trouser crease we’ve ever seen and ends on the knit shirt collar proudly sitting over a graphite grey sharkskin suit
